Art has first-hand knowledge of youth gang violence. He became exposed to the criminal elements of the streets at the early age of 13.  By age 15, he was involved with neighborhood cliques, which later became recognized as “gangs”. When Arthur (street name “Art”) was 19 he met a drug dealer who took him under his wing and helped form one of the most notorious gangs in Atlanta. Art was involved in numerous crimes in the streets of Atlanta and was a major contributor to much of the gang violence that took place in Atlanta. In 1993, his criminal activity finally sent him to prison for 11 years and 6 months.

Art Powell is the CEO of EGRESS Consultants and Services, L.L.C. He is also the Trainer and Lead Facilitator of all of EGRESS's programs.

Arthur Powell’s created curriculums “Project R.O.O.T.S (Reentry) and Project E.G.R.E.S.S (at-risk youth and young adults) to empower it’s participants to become successful by equipping them with tools in: Character Development, Life Skills, Cognitive Behavior, and Restorative Justice. The purpose of the curriculums is to deprogram its participants from a destructive and criminal mindset and help them change their mindset to become productive people in society. These curriculums are currently used: Metro Reentry Facility in the Georgia Department of Corrections and multiple YDC's in the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.

Art Powell’s expertise has been sought after by national networks like the History Channel’s “Gangland”, HLN Network “America Behind Bars”, CNN’s “Newsroom, and Destination America’s “Prison Ink” He’s been featured on FGTV’s “Writer’s in Focus” hosted by James Taylor and Channel 30’s “In Contact” hosted by Angela Robinson. He is also featured in upcoming docu-series, “ GANG GANG ATL and Dawn of Tha A.”

Art Powell also has several programs he has developed: Gang Violence Awareness Prevention/Intervention Workshops (2-hour workshop), Staff /Parents/Community Training Workshop (2-contact hour training), Project EGRESS (12-weeks), Era of New Leaders (8-weeks), Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur? (8-weeks), Project R.O.O.T.S. (12-weeks), and Project M.A.I.L.S. (12-weeks).
